Vic: Aerosol can fire floods supermarket, shops
MELBOURNE, Aug 16 AAP - A Melbourne supermarket has been evacuated and the premises
flooded after youths set fire to aerosol cans.
Four neighbouring shops in the city's west suffered water damage in the incident.
Several aisles of stock were damaged by the fire which was set about 7pm (AEST) in
the Coles Supermarket at the Central Square shopping centre in Central Avenue, Altona
Meadows.
"The resulting fire created smoke, which activated the sprinkler system and the supermarket
had to be evacuated," Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman Trevor Woodward told AAP.
"The water flowed out of the supermarket and into four other shops.
"You can imagine all the grief and the damage to stock this has caused."
