Fed: Labor to have tough but fair asylum policy: Crean
CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - Labor would be changing its policy on asylum seekers, but waslooking to balance fairness with a continuing tough line including mandatory detention,Opposition Leader Simon Crean said today.
Labor's shadow cabinet is preparing to meet in regional Victoria with divisions onthe treatment of asylum seekers threatening to split the party.
Members of the ALP left, such as frontbencher Carmen Lawrence, are at odds with theirown factional colleagues as well as members of the ALP right.
