NSW: Bakers go back to kneading dough

Bakers are back on the breadline, calling off a strike over pay.

About 1,000 bakers from Buttercup walked off the job yesterday after rejecting an offer
of a six per cent pay rise.

There were fears bread supplies across New South Wales would be halved tomorrow if
workers continued their planned 48-hour strike.

Miscellaneous Workers' Union assistant secretary MARK BOYD says after ongoing negotiations,
the company has revised its offer to eight per cent.

The workers are seeking a 10 per cent pay increase over two years.

Negotiations over the pay offer are continuing, and the parties will return to the
NSW Industrial Relations Commission on Tuesday.
