NSW: Mother pleads for child killer and molester to die in jail
The mother of a four-year-old girl who was murdered and sexually assaulted has pleaded
with a judge to let the man responsible remain behind bars forever.
NEVILLE RAYMOND TOWNER applied to have his life sentence end in two years following
his conviction over the 1989 killing of LAUREN HICKSON at Emu Plains, in western Sydney.
JURINA HICKSON says the man who was once a family friend and babysitter should never
get out of prison.
She says she is frightened for her family saying TOWNER is very dangerous.
TOWNER was jailed under a previous sentencing Act where the worst category of murders
attracted mandatory life terms.
Forensic psychiatrist WILLIAM LUCAS told the New South Wales Supreme Court TOWNER was
a model prisoner who suffered from selective amnesia and if released wanted to restore
justice and confront LAUREN's parents.
Crown Prosecutor PATRICK POWER said the application should be rejected because TOWNER
showed a total lack of remorse by denying the crime.
The matter was adjourned to March next year.
